Preserving the LegacyQuantico Chapter #32 is a 501 (c) (3), nonprofit veteran organization, established to perpetuate the legacy of the first African Americans who entered the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1949 at Montford Point Camp, New River, North Carolina. Our purpose is to support educational assistance, veteran programs, and promotion of community services. The chapter works to improve the social conditions of our veterans, local families, youth and the growing population of senior citizens |
Recent NewsThe GI Film Festival returned home to Washington, D.C., on Nov. 4–5, opening with Triumph Over Prejudice: The Montford Point Marines and honoring Black Marines like retired Master Gunnery Sergeant Carroll Braxton. Full story: Click here! Quantico Chapter 32, held our first Congressional Gold Medal (CGM) ceremony. Since our re-establishment, on Thursday, September 4th, in honor of Private First Class (PFC) Walter James Oliver. PFC Oliver served in the Marine Corps from June 1942 - March 1944. On 25 October 2025, Chapter 32 hosted a successful Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup! Volunteers worked together to keep our community beautiful, demonstrating outstanding commitment and team spirit. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who participated. Braxton, one of the original Montford Point Marines, recently celebrated his 101st birthday. Enlisting in 1943, Braxton trained at the segregated Montford Point and went on to serve with distinction in both World War II and the Korean War, ultimately retiring after 33 years of service. In 2025, the Commonwealth of Virginia honored him with “Carroll Braxton Day,” recognizing his lifelong contributions.
